What is Multiculturalism?
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I am taking Economics and Political science and currently reading a book on multiculturalism. I think I am finding it a little strange that we the people have gone so far in bundling the essences of culture with the issues of race.
To join a new country, their culture and their people for me means to respect their laws, by learning them and as long as they see me as a human being who is not there to threaten their livelihoods, then we are square. I will continue to enjoy my native food and music and whatever else I can find in this new culture and have no expectations whatosever that they make changes to adapt to my needs. Afterall, I am the one seeking a new life!
Ok, I hear the booooooos and screams and shouts. But then if I mind my business and they mind their own, I think in as far as normal living is concerned, then we will be square.
Here is the problem as I see it: immigration is happening in the biggest numbers in the 21st century. you move to a new country and there is all this sensitivity going on about colour and religion and whatever else....
Then the new immigrants gets all defensive and protective and threatened because naturally if you are not in your home community, would you not wonder what is happening, and especially when language is a barrier? Then little immigrant communities form and hatred starts to brew.
Lets talk about this and hear the thoughts on this issue. We are all one afterall, sharing the world and we are the future!
